A man, who pleaded guilty to two counts of drug possession at a Magistrates Court here, took everyone by surprise when said he said he wanted to go to prison to meditate.
Ismail Hashim, 28, was charged with possessing 1.01g of heroin and 0.4g of methamphetamine at a house in Taman Pulai Indah, Nusajaya at about 7pm on Jan 12.
The offences are classified under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug possession, which carries a sentence of not more than RM100,000 or no more than five-year imprisonment or both.
He pleaded guilty to both charges.
Magistrate Mohd Fuad Abd Aziz sentenced the accused to five years’ imprisonment.
However, when asked whether he wanted to appeal for a lighter sentence, the accused only replied that there was no need, as he wanted to “tafakur” (meditate) in prison.
